Research Confirms Enhanced Absorption of Liposomal Vitamin C Powder Produced in Innovative Organic Solvent-Free Process with Maltodextrin Coating

[Gdańsk, 4 Sept 2024] — AronPharma is excited to announce the recent publication of a study on liposomal vitamin C in powder form, highlighting its enhanced bioavailability and stability. The study, published in the prestigious journal Applied Sciences, presents key findings that could redefine the food supplement industry.

Study Design and Key Findings 

The study employed a randomized, double-blind, cross-over design to evaluate the efficacy of liposomal vitamin C in a powder form. Key findings from the study demonstrate that liposomal vitamin C increases plasma vitamin C levels up to 30% AUC (area under the curve, representing the total absorbed dose of vitamin C) compared to conventional vitamin C formulations, showcasing improved absorption and sustained release. 

Furthermore, the research indicates that the spray drying does not have negative impact on the properties and pharmacokinetic profile of the obtained liposomal vitamin C powder, which may extend the shelf-life and efficacy of the final product. 

Innovative Preparation Process 

A hallmark of liposomal vitamin C studied in AronPharma’s laboratory is the innovative preparation process that eliminates the use of organic solvents. This method ensures that the liposomes are both environmentally friendly and safe for consumers.  

The process involves encapsulating vitamin C in liposomes—small, spherical vesicles that protect the nutrient and enhance its delivery into the cells. Liposomes are further coated with a maltodextrin shell. The carbohydrate shell enhances the stability of the vitamin C, resulting in a product that offers superior bioavailability while maintaining the integrity of the vitamin C.

We are thrilled to share that our latest research paper, titled “Exploring the Potential of Ribes nigrum L., Aronia melanocarpa (Michx.) Elliott, and Sambucus nigra L. Fruit Polyphenol-Rich Composition and Metformin Synergy in Type 2 Diabetes Management”, has been published in the prestigious Journal of Diabetes Research.

This publication is the result of our ongoing MetAron project, “Development of natural-based products, extracts rich in polyphenolic compounds supporting the treatment of diabetes” (POIR.01.01.01-00-0164/19), funded by the National Center for Research and Development. The project’s primary objective is to create a novel blend of extracts rich in polyphenolic compounds that can effectively regulate lipid and carbohydrate metabolism, both of which are often disrupted in individuals with Type 2 diabetes.

Our research specifically focuses on harnessing the natural power of Ribes nigrum L. (black currant), Aronia melanocarpa (black chokeberry), and Sambucus nigra L. (elderberry) to enhance the therapeutic effects of metformin, a commonly prescribed medication for diabetes. The synergy between these polyphenol-rich extracts and metformin offers a promising avenue for improving diabetes management, potentially leading to better patient outcomes.
